Robots that vacuum and clean offer the convenience of cleaning dry debris and wet mess in one time and without the need to switch between devices. They also can save space when compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living areas.

A good combination bot should be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, refill their water tanks and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the simplest robots to set up that we've ever tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start guide can get you running in no time with a full dust bag, water tank, and a hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that is able to clean up a storm and also vacuums well. The mops spin at a high rate and employ 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to swiftly get rid of pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, a range of attachments and brushes and an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

You can, for example request the robot vacuum cleaner to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly but leave the bedroom in its own space. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors as well as smart navigation technology. It can detect small obstacles that other models are unable to. The only problem is that the robot is known to smash into objects and walls at full speed. However an inspection of the history of cleaning on the app will reveal precisely what the robot has done, where it is moving, and what obstacles it has stumbled upon or avoided.

The docking station comes with an LCD display that shows the time when maintenance is required like emptying the debris and rinsing the dirty water tank. It can also mix detergent into the tank by itself with a 600ml of eufy solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long run time. The mop can operate for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to having to recharge or returning to the base. And you can see the complete cleaning details within the app, which is well laid out and is easy to comprehend although we would have liked to be able distinguish between a vacuum only or a vacuum/mop clean when looking at a cleaned area in the cleaning history.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the most recent version of Roborock's top-of-the-line robot vacuum and mop, is the most up-to-date version. The model this year has a double agitator built into its mopping pad. This enhances the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction power which allows it to pick up smaller hairs and other particles other robotic cleaners could miss.

The Roborock model, like the other two I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it overcome obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates dual cameras that can detect objects, robot vacuum determining if they are walls or other surfaces. It can then automatically change its path and clean around them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, however, it's also the most packed with features. Its sleek and angular design is striking, and it only has three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also restarts the cleaning mop function, a button for cleaning that doubles up as a child-lock, and a home-button to take the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin and 200ml tank of water. The water tank will empty itself and the bin auto-filling.

The only negative I found with this model is that its VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth when needed, but it's difficult to remove the mount to wash it manually. I've noticed that any carpet that the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener on mount, which can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a number clever features including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app that is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the life of batteries and maintenance on components. You'll have to go through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

It can be controlled via the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure smooth voice-controlled operation.

The app is intuitive and user-friendly and the X40's intelligent features are simple to set up. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, adjust suction power and mode, view floor plans and maps and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also monitor its progress and notify you when it's done.

The X40 is easy to clean and has numerous convenient features, making it a perfect option for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the dustbin into a huge 3.2 L bin, washes the mop pads, then refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It can also tell when the mop pad is full and notify you before it overflows, thus reducing the necessity for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that's among the most expensive on the market, but it packs in many additional features that make it stand out. Its mops have a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. This utilizes two mops that are high-speed to clean floors more thoroughly than the conventional method, and it has a high maximum suction power of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni and can remove pet hair and smaller dirt particles and also pick up spills and wet spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried at the base station each time they are used. This is an excellent feature because it prevents the build-up of mould and unpleasant odours in storage, and also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot mop or vacuum models. It could be a great way to keep your home cleaner longer.

There are many options, including the ability to schedule cleanings and adjust preferences. The app lets you set these preferences or make use of the buttons on the device itself. The app is simple to use and has many options for customising your cleaning routine. It also has a number of functions that are not available on other robots, such as the Clean Genius Mode, which automatically increases suction whenever it detects dust particles.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen on market, with metallic and white design that looks elegant and classy. It's a little heavier than the other two-in-1 robots on this list, at 4kg however it's not overly heavy, and it is sturdy and well-built. The mopping design is also excellent, and the double rotating mop works well on hard floors and in corners. The MopExtend feature lets them extend up to 2mm below the baseboards.
