World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may raise an Best item upgrader's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all of an Best item upgrader's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is able to deal. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller is possible using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

This is not the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to make them unique by adding a name.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
