Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes that boost its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Typically items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases like Eth titans don't change in their stats following being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor, weapons and tools for gathering, offering an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, retrieved as loot by enemies, or received from missions and chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be at a certain level before they are upgraded.

In order to upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the player has to select it, and then click on the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be, as well as the necessary element or material required to complete the upgrade.

There are three kinds that are universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which comprise gems, can be put in any kind of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are jewels that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, but cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will add their name to the end of the name of the item they are connected to, for example adding an Glyph to an item that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would change it to a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools, if a player replaces one glyph by another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component, it will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions, which are able to be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant variations from previous versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, but the materials required for upgrades do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few items and maximize the effect of these items, instead of spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

When an item is finished being leveled and is leveled out, it will be eligible for an upgrade set of components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy and it will reset to zero on failure or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece is upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The amount of affixes available will depend on the item's type. For example, a rare or unique weapon with a base that is normal will have no more than two affixes available for it and a legendary armor will have up to eight affixes for it.

Each upgrade requires a certain number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on the type of item at its current level and in what slot it is located in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item is not able to get to its maximum level The NPC will offer the player the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of materials. However it has a lower chance of success.

Engineers may use a level in order to compare the height of the building to an established point, like the benchmark. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are built to a high standard of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can dramatically increase the strength of an item upgrader kit or damage, as well as other attributes. This can be done through the item menu or pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be done in the rarest of circumstances.

Reroll tokens are earned by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item, or to upgrade another similar item. Recyclable items come with a level gauge that shows how much of the upgrade gauge is filled. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and cost of upgrading of the item.

In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you would be able to get the stats that were important most to your build more often than other. This included stats like the armor's total armour, thorns, and diminished duration due to control or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for each stat. This can be either good or bad, based on what you're looking to get from your equipment.

Each upgraded item could have a unique fixed-value, fixed-value benefit that increases its strength by a certain percentage. These bonuses are added to the normal affixes. The more you upgrade an item, the higher your chance of getting the bonus of your choice.

The game also includes several sets, which give a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on a unit. This is a great method to add a lot of power to a specific character without spending a lot of money.
