WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade item discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain Item level Upgrade level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrader mod level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
