The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
